Oman Air Frequent Flyer Programme

These Terms and Conditions were published on 1st October 2005 and may be amended at any time. Please refer to sindbad.omanair.com regularly for updated copies of the Terms and Conditions.

1. General Description
In these Terms and Conditions, unless it is otherwise indicated
- Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme is the Frequent Flyer Programme of Oman Air, in which Members collect Miles on their Membership Account, which then can be redeemed for various benefits, privileges and rewards. Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme is owned and operated by Oman Air, and it is a trademark or registered trademark of its own.
- A Member is a person who has applied for Membership of the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme through filling in and signing an Application Form and has been issued a Membership/Account number, which is detailed on their Membership card.
- Family Programme Member (or term family member in this guide) means an immediate family Member, who has been enrolled into the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme by the Member, as detailed in clause 10 of these Programme rules.
- Sindbad Miles are the reward currency issued to Members for qualifying flights and or purchases made through Service Partners. Sindbad Miles can be redeemed in exchange for specific Redemption offers.
- Status Miles are the units issued to Members for a qualifying flight on Oman Air. Status Miles are used to determine a Member’s tier and are not exchangeable for cash or rewards.
- Account means the Account to which the Sindbad and Status Miles of a Member will be accrued or deducted.
- Membership tier is the Membership level in the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme
i.e. Blue, Silver or Gold.
- A Redemption is specific goods or service to be provided by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme or a Programme Partner to a Member in exchange for Sindbad Miles.
- A Programme Partner is a participating provider of goods or services including airlines, financial institutions, hotels, restaurants, leisure or lifestyle service providers, retailers, car hire companies, or any other companies that Oman Air signs up to its Programme.
- A Child is a person who has reached his/her second birthday but not his/her twelfth birthday (2-11 inclusive) as of the date of application (or date of commencement of travel for flight activities).
2. General Rules
- Terms and Conditions are a collection of all the rules, regulations and conditions about participation in the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme, and they regulate the relationship between Members and Oman Air.
- Oman Air reserves the right to change, vary, suspend or terminate these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice to its Members. Reasonable efforts will be made to promptly post details of what is occurring to the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme website at sindbad.omanair.com
- A Member joining the Programme after signing the Application Form, accepts all the Terms and Conditions and any of its future changes.
- The Programme Rules are governed by the laws of the Sultanate of Oman and any proceeding with respect to or in connection with the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme must be within that jurisdiction.
- Save for obvious gross negligence and willful misconduct on the part of Oman Air, and without prejudice to these Terms and Conditions, Oman Air does not accept any liability whatsoever in respect of any loss, injury, delay or damage arising out of or in connection with the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme.
- Any taxes, duties etc., arising from the Member’s participation in the Programme will be borne in all cases by the Member or traveller.
3. Membership
- Application for Membership to the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme is open to individuals. A person from any country, who is at least 2 years of age, can be enrolled as a Member (subject to local laws and regulations). Legal entities may not join the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme.
- To become a Member, applicants must complete and sign the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme Membership application form in full within 60 days of their first registered transaction. Applications for Members under 18 years must be signed by a parent or guardian. The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may accept or reject any application for Membership at its discretion.
- A permanent Membership card for the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme, against which a Member’s Sindbad and Status Miles will accrue, will be issued within 30 days for those applying through a paper application and after at least one qualifying flight for those applying online.
- A Member is not permitted to hold more than one Account.
- Membership and Account balances are not transferable.
- Members may change their name or address at any time by notifying in writing, and with supporting documentation in case of a name change, to our Membership Service Centre in Oman. Oman Air is not liable for any loss or damage caused to the Member by a non-reported address or personal detail change.
- Members may terminate their Membership by written notice at any time. All Sindbad Miles credited but not exchanged for Rewards, as well as any un-utilised Rewards, will be cancelled as soon as a person ceases to be a Member.
- The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may in its absolute discretion suspend, cancel or terminate a Membership or a Member's accumulated Sindbad or Status Miles at any time and reserves the right to seek compensation for Rewards utilised if, in the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme's sole judgment, that Member has engaged in willful misconduct or breached any of the rules governing the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme.
- Members may be required to provide documentation at check-in that can establish the Member's identity and his or her Membership in the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme. If a Member fails to comply with this requirement, Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme reserves the right to refuse the issuance of Miles for such a trip.
4. Membership Cards
- A Membership Card is a personalised plastic card that carries the Member’s details. The Card may only be used by the cardholder. It is not a credit or charge card. If the Card states an expiry date, Membership becomes null and void after the said date.
- Cards are not transferable and at all times remain the property of the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme and must be returned on demand to Oman Air.
- Lost, stolen or damaged Cards must be reported immediately to our Membership Service Centre in Oman. All boarding passes and tickets during the replacement period should be retained for retro claim purposes. Oman Air is not liable for any loss or damage that occurs from Membership Cards not being reported lost or stolen, or in cases where the reporting of such loss or theft is grossly delayed.
- To replace lost stolen or damaged Sindbad Cards, you need to contact the Service centre. Such replacement will be subject to a fee of 300 Sindbad Miles for Sindbad Blue & Silver Members. Replacement is free of charge for Sindbad Gold members.
- Account statements will be mailed (electronically or otherwise) to a Member on a regular basis, as long as Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme considers him or her to be an active Member and will include information concerning Miles earned, redeemed and expired.
5. Sindbad Miles
- To earn Sindbad Miles, Members must quote a valid Membership number at reservation or check-in for a qualifying flight and at the time of purchase when using a Programme Partner. Sindbad Miles are credited upon completion of a qualifying flight on Oman Air or through the use of a qualifying service from one of the Programme’s Partners.
- When a Membership number is not quoted, a retroactive claim must be presented to our Membership Service Centre in Oman within six months of the date on which the transaction took place. Transactions prior to the enrolment date are not eligible. A Member must provide original tickets, boarding passes, transaction documents, receipts and any other documents requested when making a retroactive claim.
- Miles may only be earned for one frequent flyer Programme for each flight or transaction unless otherwise stated by a Programme Partner and can only be earned on code share flights that carry an Oman Air flight number and will not be earned on flights operated by any other airline, unless it has become a Programme Partner.
- Miles earned by a Member may only be used or redeemed by that Member in accordance with these Programme Rules once they have been credited to an Account.
- Sindbad Miles are not transferable and cannot be combined with the Miles of any other Account, with the exception of the Family Programme. Credit is not given for any activity undertaken before Membership is granted unless otherwise specified by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme. Members cannot transfer Sindbad Miles to any other frequent flyer Programme or loyalty Programme, unless specified otherwise.
- Sindbad Miles are valid for a period of 3 years from the date of transaction.
- The number of Sindbad and Status Miles issued for flights is determined and published by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme, based on the combination of the flown distance and the booking class the travel was completed on. A Member who is upgraded to a different class of travel will receive Sindbad Miles for their original class of travel.
- Sindbad Miles can also be redeemed within the prescribed limitations for Status Miles in order to retain an existing Membership tier. Sindbad Miles cannot be redeemed for Status Miles in order to achieve a new tier.
- The following options including, but not limited to, do not qualify to earn Miles: Free travel, Employee tickets, Chartered flights, Redemption tickets or other free tickets issued by Oman Air or any other airlines.
6. Purchasing Sindbad Miles
- When claiming a Redemption, a Member may top up his or her Sindbad Miles by purchasing additional Sindbad Miles from Membership Services. All information regarding the purchasing of miles will be communicated through our Membership Service Centre in Oman.
- Sindbad Miles must be purchased at least 48 hours prior to making a booking or redeeming a Reward. Refunds in respect of Sindbad Mile purchases are not allowed.
7. Programme Partners
- Programme Partners, and the terms and conditions concerning their issuance of Sindbad Miles vary on a partner-specific basis and will change from time to time.
The valid list of such partnerships and offers is communicated through the effective Membership Guide, Newsletters or other Member communication.
- A Member may be granted a Silver or Gold Membership once they have met the tier qualifications outlined in this Membership Guide.
- The number of Status Miles required for each Membership tier and the benefits and privileges related to this tier as outlined in this Membership Guide may be changed at any time without notice.
- The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may upgrade or downgrade a Member's Membership tier at its discretion. For details on redeeming Sindbad Miles for Status Miles, please see clause 5.8.
8. Status Miles
- A Member may be granted a Silver or Gold Membership once they have met the tier qualifications outlined in this Membership Guide.
- The number of Status Miles required for each Membership tier and the benefits and privileges related to this tier as outlined in this Membership Guide may be changed at any time without notice.
- The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may upgrade or downgrade a Member's Membership tier at its discretion. For details on redeeming Sindbad Miles for Status Miles, please see clause 5.8.
9. Redemptions
- To claim a Redemption, a Member must have the required number of Sindbad Miles in his or her Account.
- Free flights or other Redemptions may be booked directly through the Membership Service Centre in Oman, an Oman Air reservation office Redemption of Sindbad Miles may be requested only by the Account holder (or by a parent or guardian on behalf of a Member under 18 years of age).
- Neither Sindbad Miles nor the redeemed items have any convertible cash value.
- Members may redeem Sindbad Miles for specified products and services at any time while the Miles are valid.
- Rewards are subject to availability and suppliers' restrictions. Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme or Programme Partners may impose a period in which no Rewards are available. The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may withdraw, replace or substitute Rewards at any time without notice.
- The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme may at any time without notice alter the number of Sindbad Miles required to obtain a particular Reward, withdraw a Reward supplied or impose additional restrictions on a Reward or conditions of obtaining it
- When a Member selects services and/or goods from a Programme Partner, the contract for such services and/or goods is between the Member and Programme Partner, and so the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme accepts no liability in these exchanges or the terms and conditions which apply to such an exchange on behalf of its Programme Partners. The Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme does not offer any guarantee or warranty on Rewards it or its Programme Partners supply.
- Lost, stolen or destroyed Redemption tickets may be replaced or reissued if the Member promptly reports the incident to the nearest Oman Air office and signs the appropriate form, and can establish that the ticket was not used prior to its loss, theft or destruction. There will be no replacement fee charged.
- Sindbad Miles may be re-credited to a Member if a Redemption ticket is completely unused and valid. Any expired Sindbad Miles will not be re-credited. Once travel has commenced, Redemption tickets are considered used.
- A Redemption ticket cannot be endorsed to a carrier by anyone other than that named on the ticket. Once ticketed, only date changes are allowed. There is no service fee for upgrade rewards. No Reward booking fees apply to Gold Members.
- An application for a Redemption ticket must be made:
- 7 days or more in advance for Blue Members
- 3 days or more in advance for Silver Members
- Or on the same day for Gold Members
- Open tickets will not be issued as Rewards. Outbound and return flights must be booked at the same time. Waitlisting for Reward flights is not permitted. Reward tickets will be considered void if used out of sequence.
- One-class upgrades on Oman Air revenue flights (not on Redemption tickets) are available, provided the revenue ticket has been issued prior to the upgrade being requested and that the request is made at least 24 hours in advance of travel, space is available and the Member has sufficient Sindbad Miles in his Account to redeem for this Reward privilege. The number of Sindbad Miles required for a certain upgrade is communicated in the Redemption table.
- Rewards that, at the sole discretion of the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme, have been bought, sold or bartered by or to a Member may be cancelled or confiscated instantly and the Member is liable for payment of the used portions. All rights, including the right to bring legal action or to cancel a Membership, are also reserved.
- Redemption ticket must be cancelled before date of travel mentioned on the ticket.It is not refundable after that date.
10. Raffles
- Eligibility: To be eligible to participate in a Raffle, you must be a Sindbad Member. In addition the minimum entry age is 18. If anyone is found to be under this age they will automatically forfeit the right to a prize and no refund shall be given.
- You must have enough accrued Sindbad Miles in your Account, at the time of purchasing a Raffle ticket. Sindbad Miles that are not yet accrued and credited to your Sindbad Account at the time you place the purchase order are not available for purchase of Raffle tickets.
- Sindbad Miles will be deducted from your Account as soon as a Raffle ticket is purchased.
- Specific Raffle Rules:
- In order to participate in a Raffle you must purchase at least one Raffle ticket. You have the possibility to purchase multiple Raffle tickets for the same draw. Multiple Raffle tickets will mean multiple Raffle entries and thus multiple chances to win in the draw. No refunds will be given as a result of multiple entries.
- The purchase of a Raffle ticket and therefore the participation in the specific draw is considered "completed" once you see the respective confirmation page. In case the purchase for a Raffle ticket is interrupted and the confirmation page is not displayed, you must repeat the purchase process.
- After the purchase of a Raffle ticket, you will automatically participate in the specific draw you purchased the Raffle ticket for.
- Sale of Raffle tickets for a specific Raffle closes on the Raffle closing date mentioned on the Sindbad website. Raffle period, time and date of draw and all other applicable terms will be established by Oman Air for each Raffle and be published on the Sindbad website.
- After a Raffle is closed, a blind draw of one winning ticket and two substitute tickets from all sold tickets will be held no later than 15 days after the closure of a Raffle. The winner will be the person whose ticket number is first chosen at the blind draw. The decision of Oman Air will be final and binding on all entrants and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The winner will be informed by email. The winner will be required to confirm their identity and legal age by providing a copy of the relevant page of their passport, driving license or national identity card to Oman Air. Following receipt and verification of the details, the winner will be contacted in order to make arrangements for the delivery of the Raffle prize.
- The winner explicitly agrees that his name and place of residence (country and state) as well as the number of Sindbad Miles invested in the respective Raffle can be displayed on the Sindbad Website for a certain period following the Raffle. In addition, in relation to a particular Raffle, it may be made a condition of that Raffle that consent is given for your photograph and details of that Raffle to be used for promotional purposes. If it is such a condition, by entering into that Raffle your consent is automatically deemed to have been given.
- The conversion of a Raffle prize into a cash amount and the payment of such cash amount to the winner or any similar transactions are not possible. No alternative prize is offered other than that advertised.
- Oman Air will store the winning prize free of charge for 7 days from the date of notification to the winner. If the Raffle prize is not claimed at the expiration of this grace period, OR the winner declines he prize OR paragraph (j) below applies, a second winner will be picked where possible from the pool of winners (in the sequence of their draw) and the prize will no longer be available to the original winner (and without any liability to Oman Air).
- Should it be determined that the winner was not eligible to participate in or was expelled from the Raffle for any reason, such winner shall forfeit all Sindbad Miles redeemed for such a Raffle.
- Oman Air will not accept any liability for any loss, damage or disappointment suffered by any entrant as a result of accepting a prize.
- Sindbad reserves the right to cancel any Raffle, for any reason, before or after all or some of the Raffle tickets have been sold. In these circumstances Oman Air will return the ticket purchase cost to all participants in the cancelled Raffle without obligation to pay any interest whatsoever.
- By purchasing a Raffle ticket, you confirm that you are not breaching any laws in your country of residence regarding the legality of entering the Raffle. In case you participate in a Raffle although applicable jurisdiction prohibits Raffles and/of Raffle participation, Oman Air reserves the right not to give you the Raffle prize and still deduct the relevant miles from your Sindbad Account. Oman Air will not be held responsible if you enter into any Raffle unlawfully. If in any doubt you should check with the relevant authorities in your country.
- In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, conduct, results and any other matter relating to a Raffle, the decision of Oman Air shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.
11. The Family Bonus Programme
- A Member (Main Account Holder) may nominate a maximum of eight family Members over two years of age to become his or her Family Programme Members.
- Family Bonus Members aged 12 and up contribute 100% of the qualifying Sindbad Miles to the Main Account Holder’s Account. Family Members below the age of 12 years contribute 50% of the total Sindbad Miles on Oman Air flights once enrolled.
- The Main Account Holder may cancel the participation of a Family Programme Member at any time.
- Use of the Family Bonus Programme indicates acceptance of the Programme Rules. The Main Account Holder’s signature binds each Family Programme Member to the Programme Rules.
- Eligible Family Programme Members are brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, spouses, children, grandchildren, parents-in-law, grandparents, and stepparents.
- Family Members are not eligible to accrue Sindbad Miles with Programme Partners.
12. Privacy
- Member information held by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme includes the information that a Member or a Programme Partner has provided to the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme through his or her application and any future communication.
- Member Information:
- Will be retained and used by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme and its subcontractors to ensure the efficient running of the Programme
- May be disclosed as required by law, including disclosures to the police, immigration and customs authorities
- May be used by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme and its Programme Partners to send you communication about promotions, services, products and facilities offered by the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme or its Programme Partners
- May be used to develop new services, new partnerships; for marketing and market research purposes
- May be used for Accounting and audit purposes (including fraud auditing); and
- May otherwise be used in a manner which a Member may authorise from time to time.
- The consent given by a Member or a Member’s parent or guardian will continue in effect unless and until the Member withdraws the consent by notice in writing to the Membership Service Centre in Oman. Withdrawal of consent may mean that certain services are no longer provided to the Member, and entitles the Sindbad Frequent Flyer Programme to terminate Membership immediately.
- The Member warrants that any information provided by a Member about any Family Programme Member is provided with the knowledge, consent and the authority of the Family Programme Member.
- Upon the death of a Member, their Miles together with their Membership will be cancelled. Oman Air may re-credit such Miles after individually evaluating such request by the Member’s heirs.
